Mescal Movie Set

 Welcome Everyone!

This is our new blog created on Google Blogger. It's my first attempt at getting away from Word Press, but I'm still testing. Using this will eliminate any sign ups, I'll just send an email notice to check out the blog if you like.

This past Saturday 4-2-22, the Del Webb Corvette club got a chance to go visit Mescal, one of the old movie sets in Southern Arizona. It's about 20 miles south of us. It was home to over 100 movies, not the least of which was "Tombstone". They will begin shooting another movie next month.

Fun Ride!

I got a chance to shoot this baby! 1850 53 caliber.

Our tour guide was just awesome! He taught us a lot about shooting movies, quite different than the computer generated stuff we saw at Universal Studios at Disney. He was so full of knowledge about all the movies that had been shot there, the actors, famous words...Just amazing.

He said that the prop people make their money selling props. Props are brought in for a specific movie and actors take them home as souvenirs and the movie company has to pay full retail rather than just the rental price.

Talk about money, the folks who cleaned up the horse poop from the movie Tombstone were paid $150,000  Not bad money for that type of work!

If you look at this next video, you'll probably notice the chairs where Doc Holiday and the Earps played poker. I've seen this place in a lot of western movies.

This set sits on a 2500 acre plot that was leased from the State of Arizona. When the lease ran out, the buildings needed to be demolished and returned to desert. The Karchner Family bought 70 acres where the buildings are and allowed it to stand.

Watch for many more movies to be made on this beautiful set!

Love Y'all
